RationalWiki on heavy metal genres (and fans)

On Wikipedia, most articles about Heavy Metal bands are plagued by ridiculous, nit-picking edit wars about which indistinguishable micro-sub-genre their fans (or more likely, the people who hate the band and want to associate the band with something supposedly “uncool”) think it belongs in.

My two cents

I can disagree with RationalWiki on many different things; if rationalism is the best epistemology, then its supporters ought to doubt that claim I’ve quoted above until it’s validated (via quantification) through the peer-review process. The assertion really needs a [citation needed] tag to live up the site’s philosophy.

But since I’m skeptical of skepticism, I won’t need to dwell on that. Instead, I’ll heartily agree with their overall premise about heavy metal fans on Wikipedia (and outside of Wikipedia for that matter). There were some heavy metal fans in my old workplace; maybe I could have asked them about the whole microgenre thing. I guess this is what you’d call musical taxonomy.
